Weekend Chat Line...Did you miss me last week?

"A sneak preview"
of the progress so far on Mr. Lincoln.

When I said I wouldn't be posting as frequently, I didn't expect to let a whole week go buy without saying something...but that's exactly what happened.

Time simply got away from me. Along with my regular job as a hairdresser (which I speak of often), I was working on "Mr. Lincoln" and replenishing my print bins in preparation for last weekend's exhibit at my home town art fair in Lincoln, Illinois...and then there is that "art related opportunity" that I mentioned in an earlier post. I might add it's developing quite nicely, but it has also required a portion of my time.

I will be announcing something soon...I promise.

The Art and Balloon Fest has always been a very good art fair in regard to sales but this year it was terrible...my sales were barely 1/3 of what I usually do. Some automatically say it's the economy, and I'm sure that is effecting everything this year. Yet so far my experience has been that my sales have held solid this year.

Just don't know...but was certainly disappointing. Attendance was way down and those who were there weren't buying. In fact according to other merchants in town the attendance last weekend was much lower than usual for the entire event...not just the art fair.

As for my progress on "Mr. Lincoln", you can see he's coming along quite nicely. I'm really pleased so far. He's actually starting to look like himself. The photo shown here was taken quickly so as usual doesn't show some of the finer detail...but still LOTS of work to be done yet. I'm so glad the due date has been moved to October...this took some of the pressure off. I now have time to "take my time", which in the end will produce a better drawing.

So I ask: Are you ever guilty of "just loosing track of time" and putting your blog on the back burner? Do you feel as I that you've let your readers down when this happens?
The "Chat Line" is open...I look forward to your comments and please feel free to comment on what others have to say. Remember...when you share, others are blessed.

I'm so sorry I neglected posting last week, hope to do better in the future. You notice I didn't say "promise". Things will remain a little hectic until the end of September, when my show schedule ends.

Today will be a "catch up at home day", doing all the things I hate to do...cleaning, laundry, paying bills, grocery shopping, etc. Mr. Lincoln is on my schedule for Sunday afternoon...YEA! Have a great holiday weekend. Hope you're doing something you enjoy!

Sincerely,
Marsha

Love this start to Lincoln! The eyes are magnificent. I also like the background effect.

Hi Marsha,
Like you Marge and I were preparing for an art show we had today--so we lost track of time the past couple of weeks. Your work on Abe is great the eyes tell all, just wonderful gift you have.We live in a small NW Wisconsin town and so today lots of folks milling about, art shows in the Voyager Village community, The Lions had a sale going on at Crooked Lake, and our "Arts Alive On 35" art show in Siren,WI, I think you can see some of the groups art on www.baag.org--my site is not up yet but I'm determined to finish next week, everything in it's right time. We had a lot of finishing work and maintenance work on our tent, from legs broken earlier this summer--so after today we had modest sales, not great but we met some really neat people. Since Marge and I are retired and can devote more time to our photography and watercolor painting my sense of urgency is not so great, I'm more at ease and learning so much about the art world I feel very blessed to be working in a field of so many highly talented artist, what an honor and a joy.We appreciate your work, your blog, and hearing about your everyday ups and downs we all seem to have as we all make our way. I was accepted this past week in and art show at the Heartwood,in Spooner,WI so that is a great experience to look forward too--November 1, so more time to finish more paintings. Many artist have helped me this year, and I mean help, my work has improved greatly with the support. Keep up the great work and we hope your projects continue to bless you-best to you--Jimmy and Marge

Hi Marsha,

After seeing your artwork, one can only expect quality.
I'm sure that this one won't be an exception.

Kind regards,

José

Thanks for your wonderful comments on Mr. Lincoln.

I'm laying him aside for a couple of weeks until I finish my show schedule for this season...but expect to have him finished by mid October.

His face is going to require a lot of "tweaking" to get that ruddy look. I'll try to remember to stop long enough to take WIP photos...and give you some in site into the process.
